You have clarified much, making further sense of the destruction of N.O., as it, among multiple other effects, has destroyed the value of America's agricultural export earnings, while creating shortages around the globe. China, Russia, and the US represent the lion's share of agricultural production for export and the shortfall cannot be made up by the former two. The steady destruction of Zimbabwe's commercial farming sector is doubtlessly related, with South Africa soon to follow in train.

BTW: Both China and Russia are substantially energy self-sufficient; the oil/gasoline crisis is not a supply problem; "Peak Oil" is a half truth, at best.
